International Payments
Use UAE Open Finance payments for cross-border transfers.
International payments let you initiate a cross-border transfer through the same payment request flow as a domestic payment. Use this payment type guide to choose a supported payment pattern before implementing the request.
Spare executed the first AlTareq-initiated cross-border Open Finance payment in the GCC.
When To Use
Use an international payment for:
- Invoice collection in a currency other than AED
- Remittance and payouts to an overseas creditor
- A single future-dated cross-border debit
For a UAE-to-UAE debit, use the matching domestic payment type instead.
Supported Payment Types
| Payment type | International payment support |
|---|---|
| Single instant | Supported |
| Fixed defined schedule | Supported with one scheduled payment |
| Variable defined schedule | Supported with one scheduled payment |
| Periodic | Not supported |
| On-demand | Not supported |
International payments are not a separate request type. You create a single instant or defined-schedule payment and mark it as international in the instructions.
Choose A Flow
Use a single instant payment when the payer authorizes one immediate cross-border debit.
Use a defined schedule when the payer authorizes one cross-border debit for a future date. International defined schedules accept one scheduled payment only.
The International Payments Deep Dive documents the request fields, extended purpose, example payload, and validation rules.
Authorization And Status
After you create the request, collect consent through Spare hosted pages, Spare Link, or the consent API. Payment statuses and webhooks follow the same flow as domestic payments.
See Payment flow for the end-to-end sequence.
